CHINHOYI — Government has upgraded roads in Chinhoyi to ensure smooth movement during the Zanu PF 23rd Annual National People's Conference.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said rehabilitation works around the host town are on track, with focus on access roads leading to Chinhoyi University of Technology, the venue for the conference.

The conference, which began on the 12th of October, will run until the 17th and is expected to draw over 7,000 delegates.
Temporary upgrades
Speaking while inspecting a newly graded gravel road near CUT on Tuesday, Minister Mhona said the current works are meant to ease traffic for both conference delegates and motorists travelling to various parts of the province.
He said that since a huge number of people are being received for the conference, it was fit to make sure the road is easy to move on, not just for people coming for the conference but for those travelling as far as Chirundu.
He stressed that the upgrades are temporary.
He said what is being done is just to make sure travellers can use the road properly, adding that before the year ends, contractors initially contracted for the road reconstruction will start working.

He noted that five contractors were given sections of the road to upgrade and rehabilitate along the Harare-Chirundu highway.
Chirundu Border Post
The Minister added that similar works have started at Chirundu Border Post, while local roads in Chinhoyi have also been rehabilitated.
He said people are happy about the road works on the local roads, adding that Government is working well with the local council through the Department of Roads to reconstruct and rehabilitate roads.
Road works in the town have included pothole patching, temporary expansion, and grading of gravel roads leading to the venue, improvements residents say have already eased day-to-day travel.
