Government has approved measures to tackle illegal vending and related activities in Harare's Central Business District, aimed at restoring order, improving the functioning of the capital, safeguarding public health, formalising livelihoods, and creating lawful trading opportunities.
Speaking during yesterday's post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda said Government will accelerate servicing of 100 identified vending sites across the city's suburbs, and also develop a modern satellite market on the periphery of the CBD to provide additional trading space for vendors.
The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has already begun cleaning up Harare's streets and relocating vendors to designated trading sites.
