Wine sommelier quits corporate job to launch luxury events brand

HARARE — A Harare-based certified wine sommelier has left her corporate role to launch a luxury mobile events and wine tasting company, betting on growing demand for premium lifestyle experiences in Zimbabwe.

Kiddo GC Kanda, co-founder of Bites & Bubbles Co., officially unveiled the brand with a sold-out wine tasting event at Gletwyn Boutique Guest House in Harare recently.

The launch, held under the banner of "Wine & Soul," featured a live collaboration with Afrosoul artist Skiezy, blending music, wine, and intimate venue styling.

From hobby to business

Kanda's path to entrepreneurship was unconventional. She was a natural organiser in high school, later planning lobola celebrations and bridal showers for friends and family before being entrusted with an entire wedding in 2023.

That same year, she pursued formal training in Wedding and Events Planning. Driven by a love for elegance and taste, she enrolled in Wine School and graduated in 2024.

After working in a corporate role, she quit in early 2026 to build something of her own alongside her sister and co-founder Bridget Masara, who is based in the United States.

A growing market

Bites & Bubbles Co. offers cocktails and mocktails, curated snack boxes, wine tastings, sundowners, intimate venue styling, mobile bar hire, and event equipment hire.

The brand partners with wedding planners, event planners, and corporates to offer complete, elegant experiences for occasions ranging from celebrations to memorials.

Kanda is now preparing for the next Bites & Bubbles Wine Tasting Experience set for December 2026, with more Wine & Soul sessions planned.
