Former President Robert Mugabe’s son, Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, and four security aides accused of robbing a security official have been released on bail pending trial.
Chatunga appeared in court alongside his security aide, Munashe Mubhawu, and three other security guards, Terence Johannes Chinyemba, Fredson Peter and Solomon Pamire, in connection with the alleged robbery of ZACC official Lloyd Mupanduki.
The five were each granted US$100 bail after the State consented to their release, having considered the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
The prosecution indicated that there were no compelling reasons to oppose bail, paving the way for the accused to be released pending trial.
As part of their bail conditions, the five were ordered to continue residing at their given addresses, report to the police once every week and refrain from interfering with State witnesses.
They are expected to return to court on November 24 for possible allocation of a trial date.
