Fire has destroyed goods worth thousands of dollars at the Glen View 8 Furniture Complex in Harare.
The fire broke out this morning, with some community members awakened around two o'clock by loud bangs as goods burned in large flames and thick smoke engulfed the area.
The complex accommodates an estimated four thousand carpenters and informal traders, who are mainly engaged in the manufacture and sale of furniture products such as chairs, sofas, wardrobes, beds, and other timber-related goods.
Three fire-fighting engines were already on the scene, working to contain and extinguish the blaze, which is believed to have started at the centre of the complex, popularly known as Kumakitchen.
